"Well we're here today at Gold Valley. It's the first round of the Rushmore League, now the Rushmore leagues I really like fishing. There's a lot of money to be won and it's a team match as well, it's not only you trying to win a lot of money for the individual price but there's also a team prize at the end of it, so it always gives you something to fish for."
"It's quite an interesting match here at Gold now because you've got four lakes in today, two are F1 lakes and two are carp, so you never know where the winners going to come from. Last year I drew Back Lake and won one of the matches with 160lb, Syndicate can also throw up some 100lb+ weights or even Bungalow could throw up a big weight today."
"I've drawn Middle Lake, peg 76, and its probably the one lake where you're not going to be able
to frame from but you're probably gonna be getting more of a day's fishing here than any of the other lakes. So it's a lake I've drawn quite a lot recently, so I know roughly what I'm going to be doing. I'm going to have 10-15 minutes on pellets, just to see if there's anything in my peg. The water temperatures about 6°, so it's saying to me it's going to be more of a maggot match. There's not much wind so the pole could be good, and I have set up a little maggot feeder as well. But we're going to start the match on pellets, and then work our way on to maggots and there may be a few fish on the feeder late."
"Let's see what I can catch and hopefully I might be able to sneak in the frame but hopefully a section win is going to be on the cards."
Callum ended the match with 20 F1s for 23lb 8oz, which was enough to win his section and was second on the lake, a very hard but enjoyable day.
Callum's fish came fishing 16m on the pole left and right with maggots, he felt like the fish were off the bottom and found that tapping in 5 maggots really regular was best for keeping the bites coming.
He fished with a 0.15g MVR Finesse Series 6 Float and very light hooklengths of 0.8mm MVR Hooklength line.
Mark Eves took the £700 top prize with 148lb on Syndicate Lake, peg 116.
