Bedchairs
Bedchairs
When it comes to Carp fishing, or any form of specimen angling, the most important factor by far is simply the amount of time you spend in pursuit of your target fish. Even with the best rods, reels and bite alarms, if you don’t have a bait in the water, you are not going to catch anything! That’s why at Bristol Angling Centre we stock a wide range of Bedchairs and sleep systems designed to offer you the best in terms of comfort, support and durability, making the long nights spent on the bank as comfortable as possible, during all seasons. Like most things in carp fishing, there are hundreds of different models available, so we have listed some key features below to help you choose the perfect bankside sleep system!
Weight
Its no secret these days that the more mobile you can be as an angler, the more successful you will be. Especially as a Carp angler, we often take a lot of bulky items with us which weigh a lot. Therefore if your bedchair is massive and weighs a tonne, it makes transport a lot of effort meaning you will be less inclined to move onto those fish jumping out at the other end of the lake! When it comes to bedchairs, weight is often determined by the frame of the bed. Cheaper beds will have a steel frame which makes them much heavier, whereas the more expensive beds have frames made from lightweight aluminium alloy materials which makes them super lightweight and easy to transport around the lake.
Stability
Having a bed which is stable is essential for ensuring a good nights sleep whilst out on the bank. Bedchair’s with a greater number of legs are going to lead to increased stability, with some featuring 6 or even 8 legs to ensure maximum stability. Having legs which are adjustable is also really handy over rough or uneven terrain, there's nothing worse than sleeping at an angle! The feet on the end of your bedchairs legs will also have a big effect on how stable it is, with most beds incorporating mud or swivel feet which have a pivot to ensure they always lie flat on the ground.
Mattress
The mattress on a bed is one of the most important features when it comes to ensuring comfort on the bank. The padding material and amount used can often determine the price of a bedchair, with materials varying from the traditional foam padding, to more advanced memory foams used in higher end models. If you’re an angler who generally only fishes one or two nights a week, then a standard foam type mattress will be adequate. However if you find yourself fishing more frequently or on longer sessions such as trips to France, then investing in a bed with a memory foam mattress that is fully supportive is essential.
Size
Its goes without saying that you need a bed which suits your overall size and height and fits inside your Bivvy. Most manufacturers make a standard width bed designed at offering the average angler a decent amount of room for a great nights sleep, as well as a wider version which offers a little extra space for the larger angler or if you just want maximum comfort. Its important to mention that the larger your bed, the harder it will be to transport, so its important to find a balance between portability and comfortability to ensure you find something which really suits you.
